Not so much a problem as jumping through bureaucratic hoops to make sure I don't get double-taxed on the money from the German translation sale of Doppelganger and Warrior and Witch. I had to fill out a form to get some other forms that will prove I'm a U.S. resident so I can give those to other people so they will give me my money, bypassing German taxes.
I tried to study it a few years ago, but rapidly realized the class was taught in such a way that I wouldn't achieve translation competence for about three years, and dropped out.
There's something about repeated letters that I have great difficulty in translating. So Finnish is particularly difficult for me.
But I've turned up information on a Finnish knock-off of Tarzan, appearing in 1940, raised on bear's milk and charging out of the Arctic Circle to fight the Soviets in the Winter War--this, from a magazine published in 1940 in Finland.
Which is, I think, pretty cool, and worth the headaches translating Finnish gives me.
She's my literary agent, not my tax accountant. She (working with their foreign rights agent and co-agents overseas) got me the deal and sent me the necessary forms, but I still have to fill them out. And when things go awry (as they did in this case), I could sit on my butt and make somebody else send me everything again, but that would make the entire process slower than it's already been.
