I’m doing a mini-AMA over on Reddit Fantasy today, in support of Worldbuilders’ fundraising drive. Check it out, and come ask me anything!

Edited to add: Also, Myke Cole and Bradley Beaulieu are doing the same thing on behalf of Worldbuilders today.

Tonight in the shower [personal profile] spatch came up with a Mummy story in which a strange cat appears in the Carnahan-O'Connell household; it is adopted and made much of and then some unscrupulous archaeologists of the kind that can always be found in these stories try to catnap it; at first Rick and Evy think it has to do with the jewels on its ancient and curious collar, but in fact they're after the cat itself, which is rumored to be (it really is) an emissary of Bast. After various shenanigans leading into the desert, it transpires that the treasure the cat is protecting is an unexcavated temple of its mistress which lies under the sand and should not be disturbed, not because some great snarling feline mask is going to rear out of the sand and eat anyone, but because it is the last resting place for the souls of cats who have worn out their nine lives. There is some kind of confrontation with the unscrupulous archaeologists. There is a theophany. The Carnahan-O'Connells swear never to disclose the location of the temple. The cat goes home with them to England, purring in the secret language of temple cats. (Jonathan is probably allergic but besotted. He feels like a cat pushover to me.) And Rob does not write fanfiction or even that much fiction of any sort, so the chances of getting him to turn this skeleton into an actual story are slim, but I still felt you should know about it.

That is amaaaaaaaazing and if he ever does write it, you have to let me know.

I will! Would also cheerfully accept drive-by prompt take-ups. I want to read it myself.

With your permission (and spatch's), I might offer that as a prompt next year, should I request The Mummy in Yuletide again.

I will ask [personal profile] spatch, but my permission is hella granted.
