Aaaaaand it’s official: Voyage of the Basiisk is on sale now in the U.S.!

Voyage of the Basilisk cover

Tell one, tell all, buy early, buy often. :-) And, as a bonus, here’s the “title” music from the soundtrack I made for the novel. Ironically, the song is called “Desert,” but it’s from Cirque du Soleil’s water-themed show O:

Consider this the discussion thread for Voyage (and previous books in the series). Feel free to ask questions or post reactions in the comments — spoilers are welcome!

There is a part of me that doesn't know whether to cheer or tear my hair out when I hear how quickly people zip through something that took me months to write. <lol> In the end, I think cheering is the right response.

My copy landed in the mail box last night. I am just finishing Tropic, I saved it for now. Voyage will be the Easter holiday reading.

I was wondering, though, if Lady Trent might be prevailed upon to publish her field notes at some future date? It would be glorious to see some of her sketches and read her actual notes on dragons.

Congrats on Book 3, cover is lovely!

It's possible! Certainly there seems to be a fair bit of interest in it.

Congratulations! I'm glad to see it's available on Kindle already - this is one of those books where I'll buy the physical copy once it's available in the store but don't want to wait with reading until it arrives there :)

And speaking of dragons; did you see today's publication in Nature (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v520/n7545/full/520042a.html)?

I've been waiting to read this because I assumed I would fly through it like I did with the first two. I was right! I loved it but now that it's over, I'm ready for the 4th one (to bad I have to wait). These are some of my favorite dragon books and I recommend them to everyone who will listen. Keep up the good work. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! I'm hard at work on getting the fourth ready for publication . . . .

Lady Trent's memoirs

Just finished reading Voyage of the Basilisk. Gosh, that was fun! Eagerly awaiting the 4th book. Meanwhile, a small reflection on, well, taxonomy: I am not sufficiently familiar with the genus "Steam Punk" to be sure whether Lady Trent's memoirs fit in that category. Perhaps they represent a new species: "Scale Punk". Anyway, keep up the excellent work!

Belated reply -- sorry for the delay!

I do think of the books as being at least somewhat steampunky. They're not in the core of that genre, but they have elements of it, and could appeal to people who like that sort of thing. As for "scale punk" -- heh. :-) It's a cute term!

Perhaps, given my enjoyment of your scale punk works, I should sample more freely in the steam punk genre. While waiting for Lady Trent's next memoir...

I am so impressed by your world-building! I read your essay about it--plate tectonics, no less! The different dragon species and their intriguing life-cycles are wonderful examples of creative conception.

Please keep up the good work!
