A Year in Pictures – Hanging Coral

We visited the enormous Churaumi Aquarium while we were in Okinawa. My efforts to photograph the whale sharks met with limited success, but I had better luck with the coral, which was beautifully vivid.

It's a very great pity that we couldn't spend much time there. It's a huge aquarium, and there are other things with it in the Ocean Park Expo (like the Tropical Dream House, which is a botanical garden); we only saw a tiny percentage of the whole. If we go back for another seminar, I may try to take time for a full day trip out there.

Nice job photographing through the glass. That ALWAYS manages to defeat me when I try to take pics of my own fish.

You have to put the lens flat against the glass to eliminate glare (and make sure the glass is as clean as you can get it, first). A low f-stop helps, too, if you know how to control that on your camera.

Oooh, coral. My favorite part of the Shedd that isn't sometimes closed for babywhale is the seahorses because CORAL.
