A Year in Pictures – Kerala Canoe

The “backwaters” of Kerala are a region of canals, where locals get around by canoe. My husband and I went down there to spend a day and a night on one of the houseboats that ply the area, and it was one of the most beautifully relaxing experiences I’ve had in years.

Date: 2014-02-04 04:29 pm (UTC)It also seems like Kerala is a social paradise, in a way that really appeals to those of us who wonder if we in the West might not be "over-civilized"... I once saw a documentary about Kerala that showed that even though the people there tend to be "poor" by our standards, their life expectancies and literacy rates are very high.
