Sravanabelagola is a fair hike to get to: not only do you have to climb the hill (which is fairly steep), but you have to do it barefoot. And even in October, the stone was quite warm. But the view from the top was absolutely splendid, and dotted with various shrines, buildings, columns, and more.

I've been enjoying your photo posts, especially as someone who gave upon using a camera years ago. :-) My dad was an enthusiastic amateur photographer (he gave it up after someone stole his SLR and everything went digital; my dad is generally inept with computers anyway) so I grew up appreciating the skill involved even if I am no good at myself!

Thanks! I wasn't sure how interested anybody would be in this stuff, but when you've got all these pictures, it seems a shame to just let them sit around on your hard drive with nobody looking at them. :-)

I don't actually know the specifics. Sravanabelagola is a Jain site; I presume it's a religious requirement, but I can only guess at what's behind it.
