Why won't this short story just die?

I'm itching to do things like get back to the fight-scene blogging, but I can't let myself do that until this damn thing is finished. Which will happen tonight, come hell, high water, or the lure of sweet sweet procrastination . . . but god, it's taking forever.

Hmm. When I hit that, I usually try to take what I just did and have it go the opposite way -- but that's usually earlier in the story. I've never tried it for the ending.

I'm sort of in the middle, but the problem isn't the plot; it's juggling a whole lot of details that aren't familiar to me. Thank god for the internet, sez I.

What I've seen done (albeit with varying degrees of success) is make placeholding "____"s for unfamiliar details while you are in full flow, and go back and Google up the blanks later? Might or might not work for you, though.

Not feasible in this case; it's a question of keeping the environment in mind, and the characters, and the theme I'm trying to explore, and steer it all toward the Thrilling! Climax! But I have a draft now, thank god, and I'll see what it looks like in the morning.
