Does anyone in the Bloomington area know of a good dermatologist I could go to for scar treatment? I'd even be willing to drive to Indy, if that's what it took, but Bloomington would be better, since it'll take quite a few visits.

Search no further than Bloomington itself! The most famous and considered best dermatologist in Bloomington is Dr. McTigue. Now you will have to get on a waiting list to see her, but she is supposed to be worth it. Hubby goes to her and likes her.

ALSO! Believe it or not, a cosmetic surgeon might also be good. Dr. Weber is fantastic! He is so good people from New York fly in to see him. I can vouch for his work. He did my nose years ago. ;)

Surgery's pretty much right out due to the risk that I'd just develop a new scar from it. But I'll check out McTigue.

Then again they do have new techniques. Here is something listed on their Web site: http://www.indianaplasticsurgery.com/html/facial.html#laserresurfacing

I'm thinking about plastic surgery again so hey, it is on my mind.

Not sure if that would work; they mention acne scars, but not keloids. But you're right that there may have been interesting new developments since the last time I saw a dermatologist. (Hell, anything that doesn't involve months of injections is fine by me.)

Why?

Just a question: why do you wish to get rid of your scars? I have several prominent ones in various places on my body, and they always remind me of what I've been through and what's happened to me; I wouldn't want to get rid of them. (If I had a nasty one on my face, maybe, but otherwise, no.)

They are disfiguring keloids that alternately hurt and itch, placed in locations (like my upper chest and shoulders) that draw attention when I wear most non-t-shirt clothing; moreover, they appeared spontaneously, so that they have no meaning or story to them, beyond the negative fact of their existence.

You have no idea why they appeared? I'm no dermatologist (my medical obsession is cardiology and the autonomic nervous system), but usually keloids appear as a result of skin injury. And you suffered no injuries at all?

I already said they were spontaneous. Believe me, after ten years of living with them, I'm quite familiar with keloids and their usual causation.

Dr. Kathryn Kroeger in Indy is pretty right on. I'm waiting for health insurance so's i can go see her again. Very friendly and down to earth but also practical and good at getting to the point, which is what i look for in a doctor.

Good luck with the scars, you.
