It annoys me when a movie promises me (speculative) genre elements and then fails to deliver them.

Max Payne?

Wheras the constraint of the supernatural to the metaphorical or hallucinatory was one the movie's few saving graces. I swear to god if a real angel had shown up, I'd have thrown something at the screen.

And this is coming from a man with an Angel fetish.

I can understand that, from the perspective of the game. But the trailers promised the supernatural, and then the film didn't deliver. I mean, they kept showcasing lines like, "the Devil is building his army, and Max Payne is looking for something God wants to stay hidden" -- which sounds good, and no doubt that's why it was in the trailers, but in retrospect it's an utterly meaningless bit of dialogue.

Which applies to a lot of the script in general.
