Non-spoilery review of The Dark Knight:

I didn't think it was possible to make Batman Begins look flimsy and slight, but they may just have managed it.

Jeebus. My head hurts. In a good way.

Took me a minute. A lot of windows did things windows aren't supposed to do, and then I remembered, oh yeah, that window. Our theater did a collective jump, for certain.

Ditto, and I almost never jump at movies. The pacing in that movie was just one of the many, many things that made it incredible.

Movies tend to telegraph jump moments these days -- the music, the cinematography, and a bunch of other hints tell you they're about to throw in something abrupt. This one? Not so much.

I think my favorite microscopic touch -- if I was right about what I saw; I'd need to check it again -- was that when Bruce Wayne was wearing a thin shirt, you could still see the shapes of the scars underneath it. At least I think something was marring the line of his shirt over his left shoulderblade, during the scene when Alfred's talking about the bandit, and I'm pretty sure that's where one of the uglier scars was.

If I'm right, then they win so many cookies for putting those on him even when they wouldn't directly show.

Also, much as I love superheroes and comic books and superhero movies, I didn't love Batman Begins all that much. It was good in places but... It always struck me as too much 'on the surface' somehow. Now I am doubly excited to go see Dark Knight.

I wouldn't go that far -- mostly because I'm thinking of a few moments in other stories that have felt like being punched in the soul, with a lemon juice-coated spiked cestus on -- but it definitely was wearing steel-toed boots when it kicked you in the gut.
