For those who knew my plans:

No eye surgery next month.

I won't go into all the details, but short form is, I am not a good candidate for LASIK. Too much correction, not enough cornea. I am a good candidate for a lens implant, but my left eye needs a toric lens, which hasn't yet been approved by the FDA.

So no eye surgery this year, probably.

Frustrated. Cranky. But it's the right choice.

I suppose this will make getting the novel done easier.

That's the reason I'm still wearing glasses, too. 20/1200 plus astigmatism in my right eye (left eye would be fine -- it's only 20/600), means not anywhere near enough cornea, alas.

I don't know where I am in 20/X, but I'm over eleven diopters in my left eye. But apparently the lens implant produces fantastic results; I just need the toric. (Or else an implant plus some minor lasik, but that's dumb; I'm better off waiting.)

Yeah, your left eye is about where my right eye is. I would love to be able to see without glasses, but given that both my parents wound up having cataracts removed and lens implants done, and given that I'm well into middle age, I figure I'll get there eventually [g].

(I'm in the same boat - so blind I can't even see the end of my nose, but still unable to get the surgery for the same reasons you've mentioned.)

You might think about the lens implant, then. ICL, which I think is "intra-corneal lens." That apparently returns much better results for people in our range, with less recovery time. I'd be making an appointment for it right now, if they had the toric lens yet.

Still a little out of my price range - especially with the lack of insurance.

Well, that and the fact that I freak out when they do the puff-test for glaucoma... it'd take awhile to psych myself up for something like this. (;

True, it's more expensive.

I spent two years getting over a rampaging phobia so I could do this. It used to take three or four tries per eye to successfully puff-test me.
