I have not spoken with my own voice in nearly seven years.

Great, just what I need. "Kingspeaker" has acquired a first line. I've got the Driftwood story I started at ICFA; I don't need this pestering me, too. Let's hope the lack of plot idea keeps this one in check. (I'm deliberately not letting myself write the next line -- something about how the priests ritually took her voice away when they gave her the king's -- because that way lies narration, description, things that might turn into plot.)

I understand this holding back. I've been trying not to write The Mermaid Story for some time now, because I feel like I need to really finish Pearl in Shadow first. Bah.

Yeah, whatever. You can start a new story while polishing that one. I'm trying to avoid "Kingspeaker" because I have more than half a dozen unfinished stories, a novel I should be playing around with, and two papers to write in the next week. Plus other things. One story should not stop you from starting a new one. :-)

I need to learn this "holding back" skill you speak of. I've got so many started-and-neglected stories that it makes the baby Jeebus cry.

Of course, I really want to see more Driftwood stories, so I won't be of any help. ;)

If it's any comfort, part of the reason I'm trying to tell "Kingspeaker" to shut up is so I'll have a fighting chance of finishing the new Driftwood story. I know more or less where Qoress is going in it; I just need the time to sit down and write the damn thing.

Oh, sympathies. Yesterday I accidentally wrote the first two pages of "The Six Skills of Madame Lumiere" before I remembered I was supposed to be focusing on something else entirely.
