It occurs to me that there are probably any number of people in the world who are convinced I ripped Doppelganger off from the Buffy episode "Doppelgangland."

Which I did not see until years after I had written the book.

(I mean, two red-haired girls who are alternate reality versions of each other? And one's a witch? And the other wears black leather and kicks ass? Make Mirage a vampire, and you're set.)

You know I never thought of that. I only vagely remember that episode. However, now that you mention it. . .

So, I was watching Buffy on DVD the other day and I got to the episode "Doppelgangland," and it made me realize what an unoriginal hack you are. I mean seriously just turn Mirage into a vampire and you've essentilly got the premise for Doppelganger. Is this a normal thing for you? Do you actually come up with original ideas? If I keep watching Buffy, or another Joss Whedon show, am I going to run across Warrior and Witch in TV form too? Seriously, you'd think people could have success based on their own ideas, but apparently not everyone. Some people just feel the need to jack story ideas from other people. Way to just be completely unoriginal.

I followed a trail of links about Burt's SFWA presidency bid to grrm's post in December where you made some wonderful comments, and you signed your name to one of them. I looked at it, recognized the name, looked at the book sitting on the arm of the chair, waiting patiently for me to continue reading when I was done with web-surfing, and had the serendipitous realization that I was at that moment reading your book. So this is just a note to say that I'm enjoying Doppelganger and that I look forward to reading your other books. And that I applaud your level-headedness in that heated discussion thread.

Having never seen Buffy, I can't make the comparison. But the friend who bought me your book is a Buffy fan, and mentioned that he picked it up for that reason. So, hey, the resemblance isn't all bad. ^.^
