Yeah, first you people bitch about droughts; now it's too much rain, eh?
I need thunder and lightning. I need an apocalypse in the sky. Sitting right now in my sunlit office, I cannot conceive of writing one of my upcoming scenes. But there appears to be a bland little rain system utterly stalled out somewhere in the vicinity of, oh, the entire southern US, and it isn't forecast to go anywhere anytime soon. Like, in the next five days.
It's a classic case of "be careful what you wish for." Now we're getting it in spades.
The best suggestion I can think of is to close the windows and crank the Four Seasons "Summer" portion (tracks 18-20) of the Stratos album. If anything can make you think it's storming when it isn't, that will. The music itself is a bit later than the period you're writing, but the mood is probably close.
That's fine by me, so long as a) I've got my electronics unplugged, and b) it happens while I'm at work, because I feel so much more secure in a concrete and limestone building than I do in my second-floor apartment.
Speaking of, though... you should stop on by, the next time we do get one of those End of the World storms, because in my apartment, it really does sound like the end is nigh. (You eget that tree canopy cum Scary Evil Arms Thrashing at You action, wind-tunnel effect if the windows are open, and OMG-the-roof-is-gonna-go-at-any-second cracks and groans.)
