Hah -- that last is a point I make right at the start of Writing Fight Scenes. Though even then, what most people think of as "a long fight scene" isn't nearly as long as they think.
And yes, I definitely meant that people are influenced by watching movies and TV more than by reading about them. Where the reading usually comes in is with Save the Cat and thinking everything has to be boiled down to the most basic and obvious three-act Hollywood structure. (It's almost to the point where I want to tell writers NOT to read that damn book.)
