I feel similarly about making something else out of it - i wouldn't be able to look at whatever it was without thinking of the original. Ugh.
Personally I think I'd go with treating it as infectious waste and burning it. (And this is coming from a person who can't quite bear to recycle the Readers Digest condensed books my mother bought, because they're BOOKS, even if ones that are a complete waste of space.)
