A few years ago, before Nuit Blanche got so popular you couldn’t actually see the art for the crowds, we saw a video installation that IIRC was a hallway full of video screens showing a looped montage of characters screaming in many different movies – I think the sources skewed a bit towards horror, and while there was something of a men-screaming-in-rage/women-screaming-in-fear division, there also seemed to be a Thing that the female victims screamed at something horrible that was *about* to happen to them, the male victims screamed *as* it happened; I think audiences are assumed to like their damsels in distress, but not too gorily to be pretty.
