You saw the bruises and cuts on her body the day after - you saw the twinges of pain - but she pushed through it and got the job done - the way a male hero would have done.
Well, most male heroes wouldn't even show the twinges of pain. :-P Their injuries tend to be very cosmetic, though the better stories make use of the fact that the guy would definitely be feeling that brawl the next day. (Of all things, Brick is the first movie that leaps to mind for me on that front: the protagonist goes through the wringer several times, and it shows.)
