I think ultimately those 20,000 words will help make it a better, stronger story, whether they're in the book or not. It seems like you can always tell how fleshed out a writer has made the world and the past of her or his story. Just like a good GM, you can tell that they really know what they're talking about and why things are happening this way (vs the GMs who fly by the seat of their pants and make things up as they drop them before you).

Incidentally, why is it spelled Deven instead of Devon?
