Fair point about season six! But season five was so, so grim anything seemed like a relief after that. I wish I could think of more recent television that is actually good and fun or science fiction. Something like Firefly maybe, or at least if it's serious then with some wit too, like how David Duchovny's cop character's wry humor helped to make Aquarius bearable. Admittedly friends have liked shows like Expanse which I've yet to see myself. But, for instance, Preacher's fun only if you don't mind silliness and more gore than Banshee, and even Rick and Morty's fun only if you don't mind families being incredibly mean to each other. Apparently much of my viewing slants toward the grim.
