It's been long enough that I forget exactly what my theories were, other than that I did point out that there was no reason why Jacob couldn't have become Lord Trent. (At the risk of misrepresenting him, I think my boyfriend's other reasons for expecting Jacob to die included something like "beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world".
But I wasn't concerned about the lack of people with the last name Trent, because I think I was roughly expecting Lord/Lady Trent to be something like Lord Kelvin. (Though I suppose that the most directly analogous option would be "Tom ennobled and becomes Lord Trent", which I'm sure some people must have considered, but I forget how seriously I did?)
