When I went to the Museum of London to research With Fate Conspire, I discovered they have a charming little mockup of a Victorian city street, including this penny-farthing leaning in a corner. It’s just about the only bit of that mockup I managed to get a decent photograph of — the light there was not forgiving to photographers without tripods . . . .

I used to wonder how the hell a bike was given such a name, until I saw the size of British money at the time, with the difference of the size of the coins being the difference of the size of the wheels.. ah those crazy Brits!

Brings back memories of my childhood. When I was a little girl I had a small bike with a big wheel in front and a little wheel in back and learned how to ride a bike on it. Never had any training wheels.

Neat! I had a "Big Wheel," but it was a tricycle design.
