1) As a reminder, the book sale will be running until next Thursday morning. I should mention that my goal is to downsize my stock until it actually fits once more in the official Box of Author Copies. And, um. We're not there yet. <gives stacks of books the side-eye>

2) Pati Nagle is donating $2 per sale from her book Dead Man's Hand to the Food Bank of South Jersey for the remainder of this month.

3) On a different charitable front, the Strange Horizons fund drive is in its last few days. All donors get entered into a draw for these prizes, which include a full-color ARC of A Natural History of Dragons.

4) Speaking of ANHoD, mrissa has a lovely advance review of it up on her blog. (I think this is perhaps slightly less of a tailored-for-mrissas book than A Star Shall Fall was, but apparently not by much.) Also, a review of Lies and Prophecy, which I've been meaning to link to for a while.

5) Finally, I'm blogging at BVC again today, on what makes a folktale. Go there to guess what makes some fantasy seem fairy-tale-like, even when it isn't actually retelling a fairy tale.

Is A Natural History of Dragons going to come in color, or will it be B&W or with two versions available? 'Cause with my luck I'd go for the one in color and walk out with the B&W.

Sorry, that wasn't clear at all, was it?

The first advance copies that got printed went out with plain paper covers. (They were also not typeset all pretty, didn't have the interior art, and got printed before the final revisions were made.) This set are basically trade paperbacks of the eventual hardcover: they have the cover art in full color, are typeset like the final book, have the interior art, etc.

Hopefully that makes more sense. :-)

I thought that might be the case, but wasn't sure and realized I knew it was illustrated but had no idea if it came in color! I almost never see paperbacks with color interior.

The color art is B&W -- it's pencil sketches, basically. (Tor would probably not have sprung for it if I'd asked for color: that has to be printed on different paper, which sends the production costs skyrocketing.)

Ooh, very excited for A Natural History of Dragons, and especially happy that it has interior art work. The cover is one of my computer backgrounds at work and _so_ many colleagues have commented on it.
