Interesting things are still happening to Miles when he's tied to a bed and drugged. If a protagonist is really just planning and recruiting minions and so on -- protagonist housekeeping, as it were -- I'd rather gloss over it with a couple of paragraphs or so, and pick up again when the conflict returns.
