Out of such impulses are original novels born. :-)
There's enough cool stuff in these books that I wouldn't want to see them condensed that much -- but man, if I had the text on my computer in editable form, I might indulge in a "rough cut" exercise, to see what you can hack it down to just by shifting some events and cutting out the bits that are pure faffing about. I'm betting you could get a lean, mean ten volumes out of the fourteen total, primarily by abridging and combining 5-11.
