The Guardian's liveblog of yesterday's Wimbledon. Scroll down to 4:05, and start reading the account of Isner and Mahut's beyond-epic match.

I haven't laughed so hard in days.

(Sadly, the continuation today is somebody else's writing, and not as funny. But anyway, props to them both for not actually dying, which is what I would have wanted to do in their place.)

It was astonishing: we ended up watching quite a lot of it, and how they kept going is beyond me. Mahut in particular must be made of sterner stuff than most of us -- at gone 9 pm last night he was still chasing down everything and diving for balls.

Sometimes the Guardian liveblogs are more entertaining than the actual sport. (Case in point: the entire first week of this World Cup.) They excelled themselves with that one though.

Xan Brooks is normally a film critic - I don't even know why he was on tennis liveblogging duties anyway!

That was so funny it made me cry.

There's a lesson in there for all of us writers, surely. Sheer bloody minded stubbornness.

I can do that!

That explains the Godot reference, then -- not what I expected from a sports writer.

Thanks for the link; I never would have found it on my own.
