apropos of absolutely nothing

I would pay money to see somebody choreograph a contemporary ballet pas de deux to the song "Gaeta's Lament" from Battlestar Galactica. It would be a beautiful adagio, morphing into something huge and powerful when the drums kick in. Alternatively, do it on ice, with some really athletic side-by-side and throw jumps at the end.

I never had it in me to be a professional dancer, but there is and always will be a choreographer living in a back corner of my head, drafting movement to the music I'm hearing.

I think the only nuBSG music I have on CD is first or second season. I'll have to track down Gaeta's Lament and listen to it.

Fourth season. Vocal version, not instrumental, and extra awesome points for the fact that it's the actor himself singing -- apparently he has opera training.

I quit on BSG after the second season, but the music throughout is bloody amazing.

How Ironic that you picture a ballet for that song, given that Gaeta's Lament is *spoiler* that he lost a leg :)

I'm aware. :-) But since I've never seen the ep, my brain instead pastes the song onto about three or four different stories in my head, none of which features amputation, but all of which would do nicely as ballets.

(I like my versions better. <g>)

Bah. I like a little bit of amputation in my ballets. :)

Though don't ask me to choreograph one, I'd be stumped.

I like the music even if the show bored me catatonic.

The show didn't . . . bore me, per se, but it never really hooked me. I attach to characters first and foremost, and while I thought BSG had some who were interesting, I didn't really care about any of them. So when I heard the writing went sharply downhill in S3 and S4, I figured I should quit where I was.

The whole score would make for a very fine ballet.

The whole score would make for a very fine anything. It seriously makes me into a little puddle of squee. Drums, world influences from all over, and then in the later seasons they get some really good grinding bass in there -- I only wish it was food, so I could eat it up. <g>

ETA: I should mention that I used "Martial Law" from S2 on the Ashes soundtrack (http://www.swantower.com/marie/novels/onyx/fire/ial-sdtk.html), and there's something like four or five more pieces on the soundtrack for Star.

(Sorry for the repeated edits!)

I would *love* that ballet. LOVE it. :)

By the strangest coincidence, I just watched the episode where Gaeta _sings_ "Gaeta's Lament," and then [livejournal.com profile] anghara posted the instrumental version in her blog and I was listening to it as I read your post! omg - it would SO work as a figure skating dance routine. Or some kind of interpretive jazz...

I've actually never seen the episode in question, which makes it funny that I've fixated on the music. But yeah, it's gorgeousness incarnate.

I love the soundtrack of that show. I always thought "Passacaglia" from "Kobol's Last Gleaming" from season 1 was a beautiful song.

It is indeed.
