Yet at the same time, I can spot a few places where she's being anachronistic. Someone -- I forget who -- has already argued in comments that her characters have more of an Enlightenment-era mindset, and she uses words/concepts (e.g. "genetics," "sadism") that won't exist for another few hundred years.

Don't get me wrong; she's damn good with her period detail. But it's reassuring to know she isn't perfect.
