I haven't read ElfQuest in far too long...

Probably not a great example, but I'm setting up a Pathfinder/D&D world where all the elves are Asian. They're based on the early Ming dynasty. They're also the only ones who have rediscovered the ancient lost magic necessary for air ships.

I decided to play around with the usual expactation of the other base races as well.

The Dwarves are based on the late Roman empire, with various legions fighting to get their general on the imperial throne.

Halflings are fierce, woad-wearing warriors, fighting to reclaim the southern, "civilized" portion of their island from the few remaining dwarves and their friends.

Goblins are chocobo riding Mongols.

Orcs are viking-esque raiders and traders.

The two mainly human nations are based on middle ages France and Germany.

Half-elves, half-orcs, and even half-dwarves exist, but they're all sterile.

There are two races I'm adding in. The garri (from the old Occitan word for rat) are bipedal rats, with what could be considered a vaugely, genericly Native American society. Mostly in that tend to live in semi-nomadic tribes, and have a more animistic religion than anyone other than the halflings. The other is the dragon-kin from the Dragonomicon D&D book. I'm left them as a mystery, since they're just beginning to show up from the south. I think I might find an ancient African kingdom to draw inspiration from.
